Thornton, CO – February 28, 2023: A straight, functional smile can change a life. That’s why Dr. Brandon Scheer of Shine Orthodontics in Thornton, CO has partnered with the Colorado Orthodontic Foundation to provide pro bono orthodontic services to underserved, Denver-area kids.
“One of the most valuable things I can give to the community is a beautiful and healthy smile, and so partnering with Colorado Orthodontic Foundation is a means for me to give that to some of the people who need it the most,” explains Dr. Scheer.
Even though Dr. Scheer and the team at Shine Orthodontics already provide a few pro bono cases every year, they realized that they had the capacity and willingness to add a few more treatments. Partnering with the non-profit Colorado Orthodontic Foundation facilitated this and Dr. Scheer now offers to provide two additional cases every year through the organization.
How Are Kids Connected to Shine Orthodontics?
Interested families apply for orthodontic treatment through the Colorado Orthodontic Foundation. Together with the organization, Dr. Scheer screens candidates to determine who qualifies for braces. Wanting to make a difference in his immediate community, Dr. Scheer serves kids who live in towns around his office — Thornton, Northglenn, Commerce City, and Brighton. Kids see Dr. Scheer for their braces treatment at his Thornton orthodontic office from start to finish.
A Spirit of Service
Giving back isn’t new for Dr. Scheer. While in dental school, he volunteered dental services in Kenya and Ecuador. Last year, Dr. Scheer donated braces treatment through the Stout Street Foundation. And he has an ongoing, non-orthodontic initiative — raising funds to build school libraries in Kenya.
Why does volunteering mean so much to him? In terms of free orthodontic services, Dr. Scheer says, “This allows me to give back something that I can do well and am passionate about, that other people really care about, and that is truly beneficial to the people who receive it.”
